Leather jackets and I just don’t seem to mix very well. However, in the past year I have been contemplating on buying one just because the variations or choices, I should say, are pretty enticing. Besides, leather jackets work well in San Francisco throughout the entire year and especially (at the rate we are going with the weather) this year.
By the way, leather jackets are great mother’s day gifts as well for the trendy woman who enjoys dressing up a pair of designer jeans or complementing a pair of khakis.

I have always appreciated bangs and have supported one myself for years. Believe me I tried without one and it didn’t work on me. So, I am glad to see them back again for 2011 because now I can actually say I am current on a fashion trend.
Since I gear most of my fashion topics to the women over 40, I decided to research the do’s and don’ts of supporting a bang and I found out from here what works and doesn’t. By the way the feature photo of Jill Zarin (top) is my favorite pick of hairstyle and color I want to see on myself in 2011.

In yesterdays blog entry I suggested some beautiful gowns here for that special day for the woman over 40. Along with choosing the right gowns, it is also very important to select the right type of shoes and although I am not loyal to any particular shoe designers and their products, I have included an online catalog here from Badgley Mischka Spring 2011 footwear collection for you to consider, when shopping for your special wedding day, or “renewing wedding vows” or simply to match with a dress you plan to wear to a wedding in 2011.
Tell me what you think?

Selecting the right gown for a second marriage or “renewal of vows” is probably the most challenging for women over 40. But, if tastefully chosen, it can be the most rewarding experience ever.
With that said, now is the perfect time to consider the options for a spring, summer and even fall weddings or “renewal of vows” ceremony. In my research I have come across some amazing gowns to consider and yes they are all from Oscar de la Renta. Enjoy!

Here is a topic I have been avoiding for a while, but since those annoying wrinkles are beginning to creep up on me, I am no longer able to avoid the problem at hand. However, finding the right wrinkle cream is probably the most frustrating thing I have experienced in the history of my shopping endeavors. I have visited every make up counter and spoken to dozens of make up consultants, I have surfed the net and read reviews on most any cream out there and yet, I am just not convinced any of them will help nor are worth the amount of money they cost.
What I did do however, is compile here and here some sites of the most highly recommended wrinkle creams out there and I would love to hear from anyone who has tried any of them and what you actually thought about it?

One word, which took me a while to get used to, is none other than the word “fashionista” and after looking it up in the dictionary to get the true definition of it, I discovered that EVEN this word’s meaning has evolved through time as a result of shows like “Sex In The City” and Sarah Jessica Parker.
I am certain that most any woman is aware of the show, the movies and Sarah Jessica Parker and of course there are some of us who admire her style and others who question it. But I must say, although eccentric and sometimes over the top, her sense of style is most unforgettable and a challenge for most anyone else to pull off.
So, here is hoping we can duplicate her conservative look as a woman over 40 and do our best to avoid the rest.

I am not a jealous woman nor envious but sometimes I just want to say, STOP IT “celebrity” you’re making me look and feel bad about myself. Yes, you might think this is childish but reality is that most women in their 40s have as much insecurities as teenage and girls in their 20′s.
It’s that whole, body deciding what shape it should be, sometimes no matter how much you exercise or diet, and then there are the wrinkles and the gray hairs sneaking up on you and the pre-menopausal state taking over. Shall I go on?
So, when we pick up a magazine or look online and see, in this case, Halle Berry, in all her beauty, we tend to second guess ourselves, physically that is because God knows what her personal life is like, and suddenly become sad (at least in my case).
I am not sure if she has had plastic surgery or a nip tuck or whatever and frankly I don’t care. I do appreciate the end result and in my own twisted way, use her physical appearance as my gage to try and look better, so that I could feel better about myself.
In the meantime, I always wonder why some women look their age and others don’t, and I also wonder why some women who have had children look like mothers and others don’t. I know its part genetic and no matter how many makeover shows and guidelines there are on TV or in magazines, the division is forever obvious between motherly women and the Halle Berry’s of the world.
So, I have no idea why I wrote this entry but I suppose a recent photo of hers online triggered it and I would love to hear your thoughts on this, if you have a few minutes to yourself today between taking kids to soccer or ballet and juggling laundry and grocery shopping while your husbands golf or watch sports on TV.

As I stated before, we all have a favorite celebrity role model, whether we admit it or not. I at least admit it more so than my circle of female acquaintances and speak of them often. What I do want to state is that there is not just one female celebrity I admire but many, for different types of reasons.
One female celebrity I admire is of course Julia Roberts. But it wasn’t until my flight back home from France this week, when I actually was thinking about her and wondering why or what is it about her that I admire to the extend I consider her a good role model. I mean she is a woman over 40 and a celebrity who in my opinion doesn’t really get out of her way to look spectacular. She has a simple look, a huge mouth and of course ALOT of hair but she still looks ordinary and very unrelatable to. Come to think of it, none of the movies she made thus far is anything I relate to, not even Pretty Woman and I haven’t yet seen Eat, Pray and Love to judge otherwise (Only because I was away from the U.S.). But I still pick up the magazine with her photo on the cover and continue to see every movie she makes no matter how good or bad the outcome.
So I suppose it comes down to, her quiet lifestyle out of the limelight, which I totally appreciate. Her ability to stay true to her looks no matter how her career dictates otherwise. Her simple acting techniques which are versatile enough to showcase in any film she makes and the most I appreciate about her is her ability to make you smile no matter what comes out of her mouth.
No matter how huge of an actor she is right now, I think in time, Julia Roberts will become our generation’s Meryl Streep.
Footnote: The best performance in my opinion was in Ocean’s 12, when she had to pretend to be Julia Roberts to bail the Ocean’s 13 guys out of a bind.
Out of sheer excitement, I decided this year I would partake in the online casting call for one of my favorite TV series, Mad Men on AMC. I actually wanted to do this last year but didn’t have the time nor the guts to go through with it. But this year, when I saw the pamphlets and the window displays in every Banana Republic store I visited over the past few weeks, I was pumped up enough to go through with it.
So last night I, in preparation for my own photo shoot, scoped out the suits and blouses as well as shoes and jewelry from my mother’s closet which I feel would best suit me for the casting call challenge.
I am excited and hope you would stay tuned as I detail my own personal challenge of “fitting into ” the “THIS COULD BE YOU” empty photo slot on the back of the casting call pamphlet.
