interior decor: areal rugs in full bloom

Ever since I’ve been on the kick to redecorate my studio apartment, I have fallen in love with everything available to make my dwelling my very own work of art.  I had forgotten how wonderful it is to decorate, revamp, recharge, redo and since I finally got my very own kitchen, I am slowly piecing the place together to make it a permanent home for a while.

Areal rugs are  a must in my opinion, it not only ties in your room’s decor, but also feels good against, well in this case, my feet. Here are some of my favorites to ponder over while I decide on re-arranging the space.

interior design: timeless kitchen decor

Here is the thing about white kitchens, no matter how the space decor and design evolves, this style never dulls.  Of course, the fact, it’s a reminder of French country design is also a plus.

interior decor – setting a high standard of living

While traveling, I often visit museums, designer stores and historic palaces and fall madly inlove with the luxurious interior decor which in theory can only be appreciated from afar, unless of course you are royalty.

So, to get my spirits up while running from one meeting to another to discuss issues which will never get resolved, I find a few seconds in between to sit at my desk and click through some of my favorite inspirational interior decor.

interior affairs

I have to admit, after the emotional roller coaster of a week I had last week, I decided it was time to shift gears and stare at some amazing “adult” home decorating ideas.

My favorites this week come from here, here and here

the importance of detail in decor

Like most people I have gone through many phases of decor appreciation, even though I have never been one to buy into trends.  I usually pick and choose what I like and create my own happy place from those things. However, even though that may be the case, I do appreciate detail (trend or not)  in decor, without them no room is complete in my opinion.

battle of the sofa loveseat

We finally finished the condo project, but since my camera isn’t cooperating as it should with uploading the photos of the final results, I decided to shift gears for a minute and talk about sofas. (Until my camera and computer work together to get the pictures up)

As I contemplate my next move about where to live and so forth, I brought up the fact in the meantime, we needed a small (loveseat) couch in the studio we currently call home. So, just to minimize the frustration of store shopping, I have gone online here just to start the process of getting some ideas.

sophisticated white marble bathrooms

Every year I fall in love with one specific color even though I am not particular. Last year it was red  this year, it happens to be white (which is perfect) because, although I had tossed around the idea of  the color white in bathroom and kitchen decor for my dream apartment, I have often retracted my suggestion because I just couldn’t make up my mind.

But this year, with me falling madly inlove with the color white, I decided to search online for sophisticiated marble bathrooms to give me  a visuals of what I have contimplated for years.

So here are my favorite photos, which I found here:   Enjoy them and tell me what you think?

never mix paint with pleasure

Just in case you are scratching your head with the title, I must explain why I chose it.

You see, I have a weird appreciation for painting various areas of a home and feel painting should be a pleasure rather than a chore. I love discussing the options, I enjoy chosing the paint color, the brushes and various other gadgets to handle the project and most of all I truly enjoy rolling up my sleeves and diving right into it.

However, when the actual project begins, the fun can sometimes turn into a sad occassion, especially when you realize the outcome isn’t  as wonderful as you had hoped.

Take for example our attempts to paint the kitchen cabinets. Although we spend several hours consulting with the paint experts at Home Depot (in this case) and followed their suggestions on how to proceed, the mid-way result has been a bit worrysome to say the least.

We were told to prime the cabinets and then paint over them. Which made sense. We were also told that High Gloss looks the best (which I can visualize) and one coat would cover the cabinets. However, after priming the cabinets with white primer and then painting the first coat, we realized that white primer was really not the best choice for dark paint. So, after three coats of paint, we haven’t seen the results we were hoping for.

So, we consulted with a handyman and was advised that high gloss paint was hard to work with and it is the worst when trying to cover blemishes, so he recommended we use a roller to do two more coats and see how that turns out and if we aren’t satisfied at that point, to do one more coat with high sheen paint.

Ok, we nodded and agreed to follow his instructions, so stay tuned to see how it all turns out in the end.
